Let’s talk Money!

It’s a big stressor.

According to CNBC over 90% of Americans worry and feel anxious over their current financial situation. Learning how to reframe your thoughts about money can be difficult, especially if you grew up in a family that was constantly worrying about money. Our relationship with our finances, and particularly how we view it, all begins in the mind, and is often shaped not only by our own experiences, but the experiences of our parents and grandparents.

Living in a place of scarcity, of never feeling like we have enough, is deeply ingrained in our culture.

I am no different, when I divorced there was so much fear. The fear of the future, the fear of the unknown-will there be enough?? I came back to what I know. Meditation, journaling, yoga.

Meditation can help bring awareness to negative thoughts. We all have negative thoughts. They are a protection mechanism, but they are not always helpful.

Meditation brings awareness of what you need vs what you want. Being able to notice your negative thoughts is a must. Where did that thought come from? Is it a fact or a feeling? Not dealing with negative emotions in any facet of life only makes life more difficult. What we resist-persists.

Meditation is shown to thicken the pre-frontal cortex. That the reasoning part of your brain. This brain center manages higher order brain function, like increased awareness, concentration, and decision making.

Mindful meditation helps keep you in this moment. The present moment instead of wondering off into the future, that is unknown. Meditation cannot make us wealthy or dissolve our debts, but it can bring an awareness that helps us reframe our approach to finances, and therefore, ease the stress.

Using these affirmations is  a powerful way to calm fears and ruminating thoughts regarding money.

  • I am financially free.

  • My income exceeds my expenses.

  • I deserve to be paid for my skills, time and knowledge.

  • I have a positive relationship to money and know how to spend it wisely.

  • My income increases constantly.

  • I am wealthy in more ways than one.

  • My job/business allows me to live the life I desire.

If these feel weird or uncomfortable. That’s okay. Its okay to be uncomfortable especially when establishing new practices. That negativity bias is real, but continuing to practice will produce positive results. Helping you stress less and move forward.
