Why yoga anyway??

In the last 7 years as a yoga teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach a lot of yoga classes. I have taught at 9:00 AM, 4PM, 5:30pm 6pm and 5:30 AM. Why so many times? Because I believe yoga is a beneficial too to help with stress and anxiety.

Those early morning classes hold a special place for me. That is where I first started my yoga journey. My rationalization was since I didn’t know what I was doing, and NONE of my friends got up that early that would be a good place to start. I never dreamed I would one day be teaching.

I tell people all the time. I first came to my yoga class because I was a runner and I needed to stretch. I stayed because what it did for my stress level. My anxiety.

Those 1st view classes? They were tough! Not because we did any crazy poses or anything but because my mind wouldn’t shut off. I used to say, “I am a worrier by nature.” but now I say, “I am a worrier because of nurture.” Worrying for me was a habit. When I wasn’t worrying about something I was worrying why I wasn’t worrying.

Yoga is not some magic pill thats going to fix everything. But it brings awareness to my thoughts. It gives me time to be present and to notice every time that big beautiful brain of mine wanders in the future. Does my mind still bring up worries? Well sure! But I don’t ruminate on them. I don’t believe every scenario my brain brings up.

I hope you can join me in July as we practice at 6AM at Dothan nurseries. Its one of my favorite places.

If you havent sign up yet, there are spaces available. Bring your own mat.  We will be loving on those areas that seem to hold the most tension. Hips, neck, shoulders.

Share this with a friend or family member that has been a little hesitant to try yoga.
